API Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the Charities Global API, you agree to be bound by these API Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, you may not use the API.

2. API Access and Keys

To use the API, you must:

  • Register for an API key through the developer portal
  • Keep your API key confidential and secure
  • Not share your API key with unauthorized parties
  • Notify us immediately if your key is compromised

3. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the API only for lawful purposes. You may not:

  • Exceed rate limits or attempt to circumvent usage restrictions
  • Use the API to scrape or harvest data in bulk without permission
  • Resell or redistribute API data without authorization
  • Use the API in a way that could damage, disable, or impair our services
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems
  • Use the API for fraudulent or malicious purposes

4. Rate Limits and Quotas

API usage is subject to rate limits and quotas based on your subscription tier. Exceeding these limits may result in temporary suspension of API access. Contact us to discuss higher limits for your use case.

5. Data Attribution

When displaying charity data obtained through our API, you must:

  • Clearly attribute the data source to Charities Global
  • Include a link back to the charity's profile on our platform where applicable
  • Not misrepresent the source or accuracy of the data

6. Data Accuracy and Updates

While we strive to provide accurate and up-to-date information, we cannot guarantee the completeness or accuracy of all data. You are responsible for verifying critical information independently.

7. Service Availability

We aim to provide reliable API service but do not guarantee 100% uptime. We reserve the right to:

  • Perform scheduled maintenance with advance notice
  • Make emergency changes to protect service integrity
  • Modify or discontinue API features with reasonable notice

8. Intellectual Property

The API, documentation, and underlying technology remain the property of Charities Global. These terms grant you a limited license to use the API; they do not transfer ownership rights.

9. Privacy and Data Protection

Your use of the API is also governed by our Privacy Policy. You must comply with all applicable data protection laws when handling data obtained through the API.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your API access at any time for violation of these terms, non-payment (for paid tiers), or other reasonable cause. You may terminate your use of the API at any time by deleting your API keys.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Charities Global shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the API.

12. Changes to Terms

We may modify these API Terms at any time. Continued use of the API after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified terms. We will notify registered API users of significant changes.
